Exterior design & functional features

One of BMW’s biggest design changes ever
Longer wheelbase than that of predecessor models; overall length up slightly, front and rear overhangs shorter; height approximately 1.5 in. greater compared to predecessor models
Maintains key BMW design traditions: “kidneys” grilles, four headlights, "reverse kink" in rear side windows, overall feeling of dynamism and power
Bi-xenon headlights (high-intensity-discharge low and high beams) with "eyebrow" turn signals above them; luminous rings around headlights, highpressure headlight cleaning system
Rain-sensing windshield wipers with new operational innovations

An amazing power train

New V-8 engine; same 4.4-liter size as 2001 predecessor but all-new engineering:
- 325 hp, up significantly from predecessor’s power output
- New, patented and unique Valvetronic system, eliminating conventional throttle; power controlled by varying lift of intake valves
- Variable valve timing on intake and exhaust valves
- New, unique fully variable intake manifold
- 6-speed automatic transmission featuring the STEPTRONIC system of sport and manual shifting
